Title: What Happened to the FDA-Cleared pTau217/Aβ42 Plasma Test?

Description: In December 2025, the FDA-cleared pTau217/Aβ42 plasma ratio test for Alzheimer’s disease was recalled, just six months after receiving clearance. Providers using the test were informed that some patient results were not valid. This GMNsights session will review the likely reason as to what happened. We will also review the use of ptau217 in the clinical workflow as a biomarker for mild symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease.  

Speaker Bio:

Chad Hales

Chad Hales is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Emory University School of Medicine. He is interested in cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, serves as investigator/sub-investigator for AD and FTD clinical research trials, and is Co-Lead of the Goizueta ADRC clinical core. As assistant director for the Georgia Memory Net (GMN), Clinical Director of the Emory Cognitive Neurology Program, and Goizueta Brain Health Institute clinical lead, he is working on new models of care to improve patient access and personalized brain health. More recent efforts have also focused on deployment of novel Alzheimer’s disease therapies. He is passionate about educating the next generation of physicians and scientists through teaching and supporting research efforts through the American Academy of Neurology as Chair of the Research Programs Subcommittee and member of the Science Committee.
